Indian Foreign Secretary

I attended a talk by Nirupama Rao, India's new foreign secretary a few days back-
Her speech was a bit bland- she made all the politically correct statements expected of her.
The Q & A session was far more interesting- she handled the most controversial questions with perfect poise- and gave well structured and thought out answers.
She didn't mince her words over some touchy topics such as Pakistan and Kashmir- and was fair in her judgement.
Rao's had a 36 year long career with the Indian Foreign Service, which is notoriously difficult to get into.
Sadly, she's retiring from the foreign service next year-
India needs women like her.
