We were told matriculating was just like losing your virginity- it happened only once, and you remembered it for a lifetime.
Before you matriculate, you only belong to a college. To be a member of the University, and to be able to take a degree, every student must formally be registered.
The dress code is very rigid, and you aren't allowed to enter the hall unless you strictly adhere to the code.
It's worth mentioning here that we're expected to give our exams in exactly the same outfit (the sub fusc) and are banned from sitting exams if we break this rule.
