He illustrates that doing well is based on unbelievably hard work, as well as, more radically, the time and place you were born.
He believes that there is a lot of luck involved, and only a combination of working hard as well being in the right place and the right time works.
The second part of the book stresses the importance of your background- and the role culture plays.
He believes that your background can be a huge advantage- and that we shouldn't forget where we come from, because it's a huge part of who we are.
It's not your IQ that determines how well you do- your family, your cultural background, and your communication skills all play an equally important role.
